Report: Xbox planning to make Call of Duty a core part of Game Pass

Call of Duty is coming to Game Pass after all, according to a new report by The Wall Street Journal (spotted via Kotaku). That's brand new for the series, which was part of Microsoft's major acquisition of Activision Blizzard last year.Microsoft was reportedly planning to reveal the news at its June showcase, but the cat is now out of the bag. Meta's virtual, augmented, and mixed reality business, Reality Labs, lost $3.84 billion during the first quarter of the current fiscal year. But that's just business as usual for the division, which reported losses of $16.1 billion and $13.7 billion across 2023 and 2022, respectively.Facebook parent Meta shared the news in its fiscal report for the first-quarter ended March 31, 2024, and noted that Reality Labs revenue totalled $440 million. Unity has named former Zynga COO and EA SVP of strategy and operations, Matthew Bromberg, as its new CEO.Bromberg joins Unity to permanently replace long-serving CEO John Riccitiello, who stepped down in October 2023 following a protracted debacle surrounding the introduction of a new runtime fee.The company's attempts to charge developers what essentially amounted to a per-install fee backfired almost immediately. ‘Distributed’ studio Possibility Space abruptly shut down by Prytania Media

Update (4/12/2024): In an email obtained by Polygon's Nicole Carpenter, Prytania co-founder Jeff Strain attributed the closure of Possibility Space to an incoming report from Kotaku's Ethan Gach.In his statement, Strain claimed he was asked non-public information about a game named Project Vonnegut. Following a meeting with an unnamed publishing partner, he canceled the project and ended the studio."To see internal team members under a confidentiality agreement engage in [these leaks] was sickening," wrote Strain.Gach's report, it should be noted, is not published at time of writing.
